Aangan

Terms of use

Plain terms for a free app.

Aangan is free and open source. These terms explain what that means for you, and the limits of what a home screen can promise.

Effective 25 October 2026

Agreement

By installing or using Aangan, you agree to these terms and to the privacy policy. If you don't agree, please uninstall it. Aangan is published by Vaari (the vaari-dev project).

The licence

Aangan's source code is released under the MIT licence. You may use, copy, modify, merge, publish, distribute, sublicense and sell copies, provided the copyright notice and licence are included. Where these terms and the MIT licence differ, the licence governs your rights in the code.

The Fraunces typeface included with Aangan is licensed separately under the SIL Open Font Licence 1.1, a copy of which ships with the app.

Using Aangan

  • Aangan is free. There are no purchases, subscriptions or ads.
  • Use it on any TV or device you own or are allowed to configure.
  • Builds published on our Releases page and in official app stores are signed with our key. Copies from anywhere else may have been modified; their fingerprint won't match the one on the install page.
  • Switching on the optional Home-button service changes how your TV's Home button behaves. You can switch it off, or uninstall Aangan, at any time.

Weather and air-quality data

Forecasts and air-quality readings come from Open-Meteo under the CC BY 4.0 licence, with air quality based on Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) data. They are models and forecasts, which can be wrong, late or unavailable.

Don't rely on Aangan for decisions about health or safety. The air-quality categories and advice follow India's CPCB National Air Quality Index and the US EPA AQI as general guidance only. Follow official warnings and medical advice, especially if you or someone at home has a respiratory or heart condition.

Festival dates

Festival dates follow Drik Panchang for New Delhi, and national holidays and Eid follow the Government of India's list. Many festivals depend on the lunar calendar, the place and the moon's sighting, and families and regions keep some on different days. Dates are provided for celebration, not as an authority; you can move or hide any of them.

Other apps and services

Aangan shows and opens the apps installed on your TV. It isn't affiliated with them, and their use is governed by their own terms. Open-Meteo's service is governed by its terms.

No warranty

Aangan is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including the warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement, as the MIT licence states. We don't guarantee that it will work on every TV, be free of errors, or be available or updated in future.

Liability

To the extent the law allows, the authors and publishers of Aangan are not liable for any claim, damages or other liability arising from the app or its use, including any loss of data, missed events or decisions based on its information. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have by law that can't be limited.

Names and trademarks

Android, Android TV, Google TV and Google Play are trademarks of Google LLC. Other apps' names and logos appear in screenshots only because they were installed on the TV, and belong to their owners. Aangan isn't endorsed by any of them. The name Aangan and its icon identify this project; please don't use them in a way that suggests a modified copy is the official app.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms; the effective date above will change, and every version is kept in this page's history. Continuing to use Aangan after a change means you accept it.
